Hello My Name Is Mix (vol.10)

I kinda hate when I'm forced into an immoral act against my will. Sometimes, however, a guy just has to do what a guy has to do. I'm speaking, of course, about including the unnecessary apostrophe in a band name that ends with an "S." I mean, I'll call a band whatever the band members want to be called - that's 100% their prerogative - but it's just annoying that, by simply typing out a track list, I have to get tarred and feathered as someone who doesn't know the difference between plural and possessive. Ah well, eventually I managed to get over Johnny Thunders' inability to spell "lose" (as in "Born T(o)o Lo(o)se"), so I imagine the same dulling of righteous indignation will save the day here as well. Also, there's a new Name's mix (you see what I did there?).

Another concoction to tide us all over while self-isolating. The theme of these mixes is pretty self-explanatory, so I won't belabor the point. Although, I will note that I'm continually surprised (and delighted) that so many of these name titles exist out there. Keep 'em coming!

Hello My Name is Mix (vol. 7)

It's been almost two years since the last installment of these titular rarities. As a compilation its raison d'etre should be entirely self-explanatory, but what's not quite so obvious is the quality of the songs. I place the same restrictions on these mixes as on everything else (meaning that if I don't like the song it doesn't get posted), so just know there's gold in the gimmick.

Hello My Name is Mix (vol.5)

Listen, I totally cop to the fact that these names mixes are a tad on the crazy side and, frankly, I'm as surprised as anyone that it's even possible for so many volumes to exist. But here's the thing: these songs are out there. And they're awesome. And, godammit, somebody has to compile 'em. And so it may as well be this little backwater blog that almost exclusively places its attention on non-mainstream oddities and confections, amirite? I mean, if not here, where else?

Hello My Name Is Mix (vol. 4)

At one point I figured I'd be lucky to manage a single collection of songs named after public figures, and here we are at Volume 4. The weird thing is that the quality of songs continues to stay high (if not get stronger). For example, three of these tracks ("Paul Stanley", "Samantha Jones", and "Fats Domino") are three of my favorite songs from last year, period.

I owe big thanks to Marc Friedlander for generously offering "Benmont Tench" from his awesome '90s band Salt Peter (which he accurately describes as "Uncle Tupelo but poppier") as well as "Maria Bartiromo" from the impressive Tan Sleeve. Both bands are well worth further investigation. Kudos to you, sir!

Hello My Name Is Mix (vol. 3)

The third volume in a series I never thought could get this far. This time there's a couple of slight cheats involved, as I've included two fictional characters. For those of you out there playing the home game, Gladys Kravitz was the nosy neighbor in the old Bewitched series, and Erica Kane was (possibly still is) Susan Lucci's character on whatever daytime soap she's on. And yes, I take a small bit of pride in the fact that I don't know which soap.

Musically, it hews closely to the previous volumes, meaning lots of pop punk amid quirky indie and even a few noo wave oldies.

Hello My Name Is Mix (vol. 2)

With thanks to a few readers' suggestions, I've come up with another volume of self-explanatory silliness. Actually, the overall song quality on this one might even be better than the first. And there's already 17 songs compiled for a third volume, but I've gotta warn you - that one might include such un-Un-Herdlike things as Weezer's "Buddy Holly" and Barenaked Ladies' "Brian Wilson" if I can't find suitable replacements. Stop me now.
