Here's one of the first monger mixes I ever compiled. I figured I'd post it before losing it in some horrible future hard drive crash. This is mostly a mix of tunes from the ancient times, an era when filesharing meant a secretary loaning a stack of papers to the neighboring cubicle. It was also an era before recording levels were all pushed into the maximum dynamic range, which, in the end, might be the only element that ties these songs together.

Invasion of the Mongerloids
It's been about three years since I put together a monger mix, which is almost inexcusable given it's more or less the raison d'etre of this blog. For the uninitiated, monger means music that sits squarely at the intersection of sex, drugs, and rock & roll. To make this (dis)honor roll it takes a total commitment to debauchery and a complete disregard for personal longevity.
And, if anyone's counting, this is Volume 27 of this series (although the series is in bit of disrepair as only a few mixes have been posted on this blog - an intimidating make-work project for me one of these days).

Death to False Monger mix
The Un-Herd Music has been inactive for a little while, thanks to the thief or thieves who broke into my house and stole my computer, along with a half dozen mixes I had ready to upload. Not sure when I'll get around to compiling them again, but I hope the scumbag thief is enjoying the samplers of Jon Spencer and Mott the Hoople, a family tree of Greg Cartwright, another two volumes of covers, and a few random sets. Fortunately, I'd already burned this particular mix to a CDR to test it out in the car. It passed with flying colors - and UHM is back up and running. This latest addition to the ever-growing family of monger mixes is pretty similar in approach to all the others. This one's maybe a tad more Keef than Thunders - there's definitely a thread of classic rock that runs through a lot of it (and just so we're clear, that's classic rock in the sense of the Stones and the Faces, not the Moody Blues and Jethro Tull) - but as a mix it's still the sort of thing that you only throw on the player once all the married couples have left the party. Not that married couples aren't equally welcome (and likely) to get their serious drink on as anybody - it's just that when they do it usually leads to hamster fights and fisticuffs. Actually, now that I think of it, maybe cue this puppy up when they're still around. This is that scenario's perfect soundtrack.

Monger Vol. XXIV
monger v. to party, carouse, roister, or otherwise misbehave with little regard for personal longevity nor societal standards of decencyThere is an entire series of monger mixes in a state of forgotten disrepair, and I'll occasionally attempt to reclaim them here. This particular one comes from July, 2008, the 24th in the series , and it's almost unrelenting in high energy aggression. There's a few change-ups (Stacie Collins and Pearlene add a slight country twang to the proceedings) but mostly it sticks squarely within the lines drawn by the holy trinity of Keith Richards, Johnny Thunders, and Johnny Ramone. Amen.

Give That Kid A Smack mix
Rock! Roll! Drugs! Girls! Underpants! It's another volume of the most mongerous mongerosity in all of mongerdom. This one ranges a little wider than previous entries, starting with the Tom-Waits-in-Nawlins chug of Royal Fingerbowl and ending on the hyper Dolls-gone-hair-metal of the Nastys, and in between it veers drunkenly between glam, power pop, hard rock, and rootsy Americana. Special thanks to the Look What The Twat Dragged In blog for introducing me to the Sand Rubies, whose "Fuk 'Em" is quickly becoming a personal anthem (even though I'm philosophically opposed to misspellings of song titles). Remember to turn this one up loud.Give That Kid A Smack

RE-UP: Full-On Monger Vol. XXV
For whatever reason these monger mixes generally aren't as popular as other mixes. I guess trashy, foul-mouthed, horn-laden punk-fueled rock 'n' roll doesn't carpetbomb as wide a demographic as a gentleman might suppose. This is worth the dl if only for the Jackie Wilson/Laverne Baker duet that'll make a feller blush - which is the song I nicked the title from.INSTRUCTIONS: try not to play in front of the chillen.
